Schedule FA Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1

The two dividend totals do not match. Is that a bug?

Accepted Answer

No, and they are REQUIRED to differ. Schedule FA is a calendar-year figure converted at the exact pay date, under CBDT filing instructions. Schedule OS is a financial-year figure converted at the preceding month-end under Rule 115(1)(e).

Question 2

The quarterly figures do not add up to the total. Off by a rupee or two.

Accepted Answer

That is deliberate. Each quarter is rounded, then the rounded quarters are summed to match what is typed into the ITR portal without internal inconsistency.

Question 3

The account peak in Table A2 is lower than the sum of the peaks in Table A3.

Accepted Answer

Table A3 reports each lot's own best day, while Table A2 reports the account's highest single day. Because different lots peak on different days, the account peak is normally lower than the sum of individual peaks.

Question 4

Can I do all my foreign shares in one run?

Accepted Answer

No - one security per analysis. Two securities at the same broker peak on different days, so adding peaks overstates the disclosed balance. Section 90 relief is calculated independently per security.
